If you question what to do in your life, Leonardo da Vinci could be the answer
Before June 2010, when I was going to graduate my studies in Poznań, I asked myself 'WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO? Then I found a very interesting programme to gain professional experience - 'Life Long Learning – Leonardo da Vinci'. It is aimed at young people who are interested in vocational education and training.
I had the chance of choosing in which organisation I would like to do my 6 months internship. I contacted the organisation Jugendbildugsstätte Unterfranken (Jubi) in Würzburg (www.jubi-unterfranken.de). I already knew the institution as in 2008 the last part of YEU Convention was hosted there. I found their activities about intercultural youth work and education very interesting. It fitted to my interests and future professional plan. When I received the 'green light' from Jubi, that they agree to host me, I got in touch with my university to apply for my project to the Polish National Agency of Leonardo da Vinci. Please note that the applying organisation can be any institution (school, NGO, association, etc.).
When I arrived to the Jubi the level of my German was quite low but even though I got involved in many projects run in the organisation. I got to know the 4 different areas of their work: Intercultural Opening, Civil Courage, International Meetings and Intercultural Qualification. I supported the organisation in several seminars and activities for young people, for example I was co-trainer during EVS On-Arrival Training and co-organiser during Partnership Buildling Seminar about intercultural competences. I participated in the regular educational seminars 'Coach für interkulturelle Arbeit'. I got to know the idea of intercultural work – in theory and in practice as well as the methods used in this educational field. I can also admit that the level of my German improved because I was trying to speak only in this language.
I would like to recommend the program of Leonardo da Vinci to all young people interested in gaining vocational experience in different country. Also I encourage YEU Member Organisations to get involved in this programme. It can bring positive effects to the both sides – the intern and the hosting organisation.
