European Youth Conference in Tallinn - #YouthConf
From the 23rd to the 26th of October 2017, Tallinn was full of active and motivated young people. Entering the 6th Cycle of the Structure Dialogue, the current Presidency of Estonia hosted the 1st European Youth Conference of the current Trio presidency.
Together, young people, decision makers and experts gathered together to discuss „Youth in Europe: What’s Next?” topic of the 6th Cycle. In this process, representatives of youth had the chance to address the issues that they find essential. Topics that will be filtered into the process of the Structure dialogue and this 1 and half year that the Trio Presidency runs. Starting from Estonia and mapping the important issues, the consulations will take place in November 2017. Collecting and reporting on the opinion and ideas of young people, Bulgaria will take over and start preparing for the 2nd European Youth Conference (April 2018) of the Cycle in order to present and work on the results of the consultations. However, this time, young people will go deeper to the process and start linking these information to recommendations that European Union and Members States should follow up. That way, they can assure young people that they have indeed examined and heard what young people expect from the EU. Moving on in July 2018, Austria will take over and reach to the closing of the Cycle and to the final Recommendations that young people and decision makers created and therefore closing the cycle with the agreement of Members States to act upon those recommendations.
The process in Tallin ended with the discussion and presentation of 25 topics addressing issues that young European face today. Some of the topics that came out of the process in Tallinn were:
- Quality Education and mobility;
- Inclusion and Diversity;
- Housing and Employment.
At the same, this Cycle is vital as the the current EU Youth Strategy is comming to an end and the process will impact the drafting and final adoption of the new Strategy at the end of 2018.
