How YEU became part of my daily life!
All started one sunny morning in Cyprus:
- Good morning Eleni! My name is Hara. I don’t know if you remember me from the seminar Engage to Shape in Athens.
-Hello Hara! Of course I remember you! Tell me what happened…
- Eleni, my university offers me the possibility to work for six months in an International Organisation that is active in the field of Education and Lifelong Learning. Would you like to have new members in YEU’s office in Brussels?!!
- Yeees, of course! We are always open to new interns. Life here (in Brussels) is very active and energetic. We have lots of activities, events and responsibilities. You will be busy and at the same time creative. Oohh, we will have a great time all together!
- If you give me this opportunity, I will be very happy to work with YEU!
This is how things happened! After graduating from University of Cyprus with a degree in Education, I was searching for a working environment that will offer me a multicultural experience but at the same time will equip me with useful and necessary knowledge concerning the field of educational policy, Lifelong Learning, youth policy and non-formal education. I couldn’t choose anyone else than YEU International! So, my first step was to attend the training course “Engage to Shape” in Athens where we explored the concept of social entrepreneurship and we contributed to the creation of the policy about youth social entrepreneurship as a means to combat unemployment and social exclusion. My participation to this event motivated me to take part also in the European Youth Event in Strasbourg and then the opportunity to YEU’s office in Brussels came!
It’s been already three months working in the office and the experiences gained are more than valuable. It’s not only the international atmosphere in a city which constitutes the heart of Europe, but also the active involvement in projects with young people from different countries. For this reason, I always try to give a 100% of my energy to help and accomplish all the tasks needed. My contribution is diverse; by developing handbooks and online questionnaires for Green Leaders e-tools, by writing articles on YEU’s monthly newsletters, and also by participating actively in the 33rd International Youth Convention and in the training course “Joining Hands”.
Throughout this three months, the most important experience for me was writing my first project concerning youth unemployment for the Erasmus+ Programme. The fact of having to plan a youth exchange, to set the aim and the objectives, to design the activities and describe the methods used is very inspirational. And it will be even more exciting if my idea becomes real! By being a YEU intern, I improve myself not only in the field of skills, competences, and knowledge but also I become more mature, a better person for myself and for those around me.
Thank you YEU! Because of you, indeed I “DISCOVER A NEW WORLD”!
