Group in spe-in hope fighting for the rights of children in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Something that inspires me, keeps me motivated to work even in hard times is “in spe-in hope”. Group of young people that exist over four years within NGO “Zdravo da ste – Hi neighbour” thanks to projects financed by Save the children International and European Union. The main aim of the group is to raise awareness about youth problems in our community and  to work together on our psychosocial development. But over the years it became something more - my second family, my safe surrounding, place where we work hard but at the same time we enjoy doing it.

So what we did for the past 4 years ?

  • FIRST qualitative research in our country about kids pornography, trafficking and prostitution. It brought so much attention to our work! That year we had the best advertising campaign - for free. Over 30 hours of media space, over 50 articles in Newspapers and more… We presented the outcomes of your research to more than 300 students, parents and teachers… At that time we were 16 year old volunteers, but with an amazing facilitator who was with us on the way.

  • Second research was about communication between kids – parents – teachers. Quality of communication on these leves from early age showed as main preventor for todays issues concerning kids. After our research we’ve created educational workshop and presented it in more than 10 shools (to kids, parents and teachers).

  • “My choice – healthy lifestyle” project that aimed to prevent early age smokers and alcohol users. We got support from Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family to do it. We used creative tools to present all bad aspects of alcohol and cigarettes use… But also we created 7 steps initiative that would reduce percentage of minors who are drinking and smoking. Initiative was presented to all relevant Ministries and other Insititutions.

  • We wanted to bring back childhood to kids in need. So we collected toys – over 1000 toys were donated to daily center “ Dr.Miroslav Zotovic” and to kindergarten for children with special needs.

  • For the past 3 years we are active volunteers in pubic kitchen – some of the main aims are to help homeless people and people in need. We are also trying to raise the feeling of solidarity and sharing between youngsters.

  • In action “For you is a little, but for somebody a lot” we raised over 1000 books for libraries in countryside that didn’t had enough books. The main aim was to learn people to share…

This is just a small part of the things we did. Now it's 20 of us, and the group is getting bigger and bigger. What we learned is: that only through concrete action we can change ourselves. And by working on our selves we are also making an impact on other people as well.
