On February 22nd, 30 young people from 7 different European countries launched a brand new online social campaign as a result of the Erasmus Plus project “The Journey - Tales of Migration, Stories of Inclusion”.
The main goal of the campaign, supported by YEU International and all the partner organisations of the project (USB, Project 2020 CIC, La Fenice APS, CID, YEU Cyprus and TOG), is to portray refugees and migrants in a positive way, not only using the label “refugee/migrant” to define their identities. To do so, the campaign aims at humanizing refugees and migrants by sharing their stories and show to the general public the persons (with their hopes, dreams, competencies, etc.) “behind the label”. The campaign, therefore, will allow to “deconstruct” the negative connotation of the words “refugees” and “migrants” and will help to raise awareness, spread ideas, mobilize local communities and create a networking platform to support inclusion and integration of refugees and migrants at the local and European level. Hopefully, the final outcome will result in a new and positive narrative that will recognize the “people behind the label” as a real added value for our society. The campaign was the result of an engaging collaborative and creative process, that benefitted from the inputs, skills, and ideas of all the young people involved.
Participants of the project (that included two youth exchanges through which young people had the chance to meet refugees and migrants, gather their stories, learn about the overall situation of migrants and refugees in the involved countries and experience different aspects of refugees’ journey to Europe) shared tasks and responsibilities and are now creating additional contents for the campaign, promoting it on Facebook, Instagram (behingthelabel.yeu) and twitter (@CampaignBTL).
