Through the eyes of an Intern - LOOKING BACK AT THE LAST TWO MONTHS
“I am not ready to say goodbye and go back home”: this thought has already crossed my mind at least a million times during this last week. Even if I still have one more month of traineeship at YEU to go, I know it will pass twice as fast as the two previous ones. You are not the same after starting a new experience, whether it is a life-changing or a small one. I’ve learned so many things in the past two months, from office tasks to international issues, from flemish words to new recipes; I can say without doubts that I will take home with me new ideas, visions and goals and do my best to put them into practice.
I feel enriched, not only for what my skills and competences are concerned: it is amazing to see how many young people are willing to take up the challenges offered by non-formal education projects and are brave enough to call into question what they know and what they think, fighting prejudice to make their community more inclusive and accepting. The smallest improvement in our way of thinking can have a huge impact on the bigger picture.
Being part of the Administrative Office of YEU has been challenging and rewarding at the same time: all the other members of the team have taught me a lot about cooperation and engagement in youth work and provided me with a lot of support during difficult tasks.
For sure, the next month will be the perfect conclusion of this incredible experience, full of work, travels and projects, and I am looking forward to it. But it is bittersweet to know it will be the last one at YEU. Nevertheless, I am sure that our paths will cross again very soon. Thank you to this great organization and in particular to Giulia, Pete and Tamara and to Cristiano, Giulia, Simone and Stefano for sharing these unforgettable months with me.
