Memories can change the world
One year after and the memories are still fresh. A terrorist attack that took away lives, spread fear and panic. However, an attack that brought people closer, bonded us in a way that none would expect and that today we stand stronger and more united against this type of fear and against people who stand against diversity, understanding and tolerance.
For YEU, this attack affected our lives, affected our views and will be marked within our thoughts for ever. On the 22nd of March 2016, three YEU people experienced what none should.
During an ongoing meeting in Brussels, within the framework of the project "Euroean Badges Alliance", PET Coordinator, Secretary General and back then Policy Watch Officer were on their way to take the metro and attend the meeting. Nik, Tamara and Panagiotis never thought that their routine would change. The metro, the sounds, the smells, the army, the feelings. One year after and everything seems so fresh. However, things are different.
Not going further to details, the most important thing is that these three people are here with us and able to share new moments and to share the unity that this marking event managed to rise within them, within YEU and other partners. An attack that took away the life of 32 people, but managed to unite all Brussels, the Network and brake borders between people and countries.
In the memory of the poeple who lost their lives, the people who got injured physically and mentally we will always remember that day and we will continue individually and as YEU to work for unity and tolerance. Hate will not be the winner as we are still here to educate, work with young people and share the values and ideas we stand for.
