Meeting of YEU Working Groups - Capacity Building and Gender WGs
As part of the YEU Strategic Plan 2015-2017, YEU Workplan 2016 but also due to the commitment and the need of the current Governing Board (GB) and Administrative Office (AO) to broaden and intensify the involvement of a greater number of people with the core work of YEU, five (5) working groups were established or continued their work with specific tasks. GB and AO strongly believe in the importance of participation for bringing the added value to the daily work of YEU and Member Organisations by strengthening the bonds between members and creating more ownership and belonging to YEU in order to work together towards our networks success and sustainability.
Two out five Working groups met in July in Brussels, in person, to work on their tasks and discuss future ones. Namely the groups were the WG on Capacity building and Gender WG. Besides the majority of members from each WG, present were also Matej, Vice President of YEU, Jovana, GB member, Tamara, Secretary General and Panagiotis (Pete), Administrative Assistant assisting the members to fulfil the tasks and objectives of each WG.
More on the Groups:
WG on Capacity Building:
- Objectives of Capacity Building Working group were to map the needs of YEU and its Member Organizations regarding development of organizational capacities and human resources within YEU network. Original plan was to conduct a survey, but members decided to talk individually with all Member organizations of YEU. They will be scheduling Skype meetings (with some meetings in person) to discuss how can YEU support their development and vice-versa. Members had a common understanding that by being part of a network means receiving but also giving support, time and capacities. Consultations will be done by the end of August and outcome will be a report with specific and tailor made recommendations for building organizational and individual capacities. First, questions were developed in a way to be presented through a reporting form, secondly, organizations were split within members of WG and now the only thing left is the implementation.
- Another task on which members were working, was creating a "requirements list" for youth events with specific needs related to implementation of safety standards in YEU events.
- Objectives of Gender Working group, were to conduct a survey on gender related topics among YEU Member Organizations. By this method, the members aim to set the grounds for increased gender sensitivity of YEU membership, adding to the tasks of the WG the creation of a Pocket Dictionary on Gender. Members already finalized questions for the survey and developed structure of Pocked Dictionary.
- Another thing members worked on was policy paper on gender perspective in youth work with recommendations for both internal and external stakeholders.
Summer turned out to be pretty busy for YEU people, so stay tuned, because more updates are about to come!
