Interns in Brussels - YEU EXPERIENCE “MY EXPERIENCE”
YEU International has the pleasure to welcome two more interns in its premises in Brussels. Giulia from Italy and Ioanna from Greece are recent Master’s graduates that grabbed the opportunity of gaining working experience through the Erasmus Placement program. We wish them a pleasant stay and a fruitful cooperation with the rest members of the team.
People used to call me “the suitcase girl” as I am always travelling and it is difficult to follow me. I try everytime to make out the best of each experience and speak with local youths on currents topics as I strongly believe that discussing with them and understanding their points of view is the best way to tear down prejudices.
So, after Canada, Argentina, Portugal, BiH, England, Kenya and Senegal it is the time to Belgium! No better opportunity could have come up than joining the multicultural team of YEU. The activities developed by YEU are based on non-formal education, I am very interesting in following them and I hope to learn more about it. What I particularly like about the organization is that activities are targeted to young people, moreover they promote social inclusion and human rights. Generally, the aim of the projects implemented by YEU is to empower the youth generation, in particular marginalized people, by giving them the tools to be the leaders of their own future. YEU’s values perfectly match mine and it will be an honour helping the YEU team to carry out different projects. Finally, I hope my ideas and skills could contribute to the positive outcomes of activities implemented.
Let’s talk again in the next months to see how my internship is going on, just keep my fingers crossed ;)
A new day has come and my life in YEU has officially started. I was waiting impatiently the last month for the time to start my internship at the YEU office in Brussels and I can definitely say that it was worth waiting.
Some life-changing decisions that I took some months ago brought me here today and the journey up to now was more than satisfying. Less than one year ago I was working as Education Manager in a youth organization in Athens, Greece, and after two years of professional experience, I realized that I needed to make a step out of my comfort zone and pursue some international experiences. I, then, took the decision to apply to an EVS project in France, where I spent the last months before coming to Brussels. Two months ago, while I was finalizing my master’s degree in Social Discriminations, Migrations and Citizenship in the University of Peloponnese in Greece, I saw the announcement for an Erasmus Placement opportunity and it got my attention. After I applied and got accepted, I had to find an organization to host me. YEU international was one of the organizations whose activities and profile stood out online. While checking the organization’s webpage, I got impressed from the amount and the high quality of their projects and activities in the youth and policy field. I applied straight away and I was thrilled to receive the acceptance of my application e-mail soon after.
I have been in the YEU office for three week now and I can frankly say that the welcoming process and the introduction to my work responsibilities exceeded even my highest expectations. Full of feelings of excitement, eagerness and motivation, I am planning my time ahead and expecting the new adventures to come.
Giulia and Ioanna,
