Get yourselves ready for ‘The European Solidarity Corps’!
Great news for Youth as the European Commission draws up a new initiative to help Youth get more opportunities regarding Volunteering and Occupational work! Get yourselves ready for ‘The European Solidarity Corps’!
One strand of this programme is Volunteering and it will offer young people, the opportunity to pursue full time voluntary service between 2-12 months. On the other hand, we will have the Occupational strand which will allow youngsters to have a job, a traineeship or an apprenticeship in different sectors connected to a solidarity mindset.
Until now, there have been many programmes focused on Youth, but they all have limitations and with the European Solidarity Corps, the European Commission wishes to fill in the gaps and complement all the good practices already in motion, creating a new programme that will allow Young people to explore new opportunities focused on solidary actions.
This said, you might ask yourself – What is considered a solidarity action? Well, it might be related to education, health care, social and labour market integration, etc. The concept is very broad and the European Commission is still currently working with Youth representatives coming from different realities, to make sure that the needs of all youngsters will be attended to in the best way.
At this point, me, Tamara and Panagiotis (YEU AO), have been attending some consultations organized by the European Commission and the European Parliament so that we can try and help build The European Solidarity Corps in a way that it will help the future of YEU and its Member Organisations.
For now, the registration is open for all young people (17-30 years old) at Europa.eu/solidarity-corps.
There, you will be able to specify the strand you are interested in as well as the countries you would like to be placed in and your current experiences and skills. Once placed, the programme will provide all the necessary conditions for a dignifying experience.
