CULTURE IN A T-IN! Getting ready for a highly creative youth exchange!
From March 23rd to March 26th, YEU hosted the prep-meeting of the Erasmus Plus Youth Exchange “Culture in a T-IN! Theatre for INclusion, INtegration and INtercultural dialogue”.
The project, funded by JINT, will take place in Brussels from June 18th to June 27th and will involve 30 young people aged 18 to 25 from 6 different countries (Belgium, Italy, FYROM/Macedonia, Greece, Turkey and Spain). The main aim of the project is to explore the use of theatre as a tool for social inclusion and intercultural dialogue and as an educational methodology to involve young people with disadvantaged backgrounds in advocating for their rights and human rights in general.
The APV allowed the different group leaders/facilitators to take part in a creative process that used theatre from the very beginning. In this way, they got to know each other and their expectations, as well as their capacities to contribute to the project and its contents. Throughout the two days spent together in Brussels, under the guidance of the educational coordinator of the exchange (YEU PET coordinator Brais), they managed to internalize the values and objectives behind the project, to gain ownership over it and to finalise the daily program of the exchange, sharing tasks and responsibilities over the different activities and sessions.
“Culture in a TIN!” will therefore be a “creatively intense” youth exchange that will promote human rights, intercultural dialogue and inclusion of disadvantaged young people in local communities, with a specific focus on refugees and migrant youth...by doing and exploring theatre! Theatre will bring participants together, out of their “cultural tins”, in a sort of “safe bubble” that will be created at the beginning of the exchange and that will allow everybody to express freely and be themselves. Throughout the process, participants will be empowered through different theatre methodologies (“action tools”) in order to become protagonists of a shared final performance and to involve others along the way: refugees and migrants in Brussels, thanks to the collaboration with local stakeholders, as well as disadvantaged youth in local communities.
The whole exchange, in fact, will result in a final performance that will be eventually “scaled down” to local communities in a multiplier and follow up process/effect. The project will also produce a short documentary video through which participants and group leaders will be able to share the experience with their peers and with other youth organisations.
The call for participants for “Culture in a T-IN!” is open in YEU intranet till April 9th: take a look at it and don’t lose your chance to be part of this creative youth exchange!!
