Tunisia pop-up event

Tunisian civil society has been at the forefront of the response to the pandemic. They provided vital services, shared information, and coordinated actions needed to strengthen accountability and seek responsive policy results.

But as the virus continues to spread across the country, there is a need to have a secure conversation aimed at discussing how NGOs can prepare for a new reality and unsecure future heavily impacted by COVID-19, and exchange views on new forms of civic engagement. Additionally, COVID19 has triggered a funding crisis for CSOs / NGOs at a time when resources are most needed. Indeed, no organization is spared by the difficulties of financing their activities. But it is also an opportunity to design and develop new financing solutions. A new business model of civil society engagement has never been more necessary than today.

To do so we prepared a webinar to bring together leaders from various sectors and backgrounds to share their observations and thoughts on civic engagement and alternative resources for civil society organizations post-Covid-19 crisis. The webinar also intends to identify possible directions for the future.

This event was driven by Innovation for Change Hub Africa in collaboration with its North Africa Regional Connector the International Center for Diplomacy, and the Ali Belhouane Tunisia Cultural Club.

The conference began with a series of keynote addresses by stakeholders from civil society and public institutions. These brief overviews highlighted the current experiences during the time of crisis, and contributed to providing recommendations and alternatives.

The conference also had small group sessions (45 minutes) to explore things such as new economic models of civil society projects and alternative resources after Covid-19.

During these 45-minute open discussions in groups key output recommendations were produced for future follow ups.
