TOG MentorPower

Community Volunteers is a social responsibility project aiming at the transformation of youth energy into community service through cross-cultural youth work. TOG believes that societal peace, solidarity and change will be achieved through the pioneering activities of young people. Established in 2002 with a mission of societal peace, solidarity and progress by young people. Community Volunteers are organized as student clubs to carry out social responsibility projects that they develop in accordance with local needs and priorities.

TOG provides scholarship, mentorship and internship opportunities to young people since 2003. TOG’s mentoring programme has reached to 650 young people and still existing over 100 mentors and mentees. Within the programmes of mentorship, MentorPower is a strategic partnership project (2014-2- FR02-KA205- 009246) funded by Erasmus+ for social and professional empowerment of migrant (*) youth by facilitating their cohesion into the labor market and education systems using “engagement mentoring.”

The project brings 6 youth organizations from 6 different countries as Pistes Solidaires Méditerranée (Marseille, France), Kvalifiseringstjenesten (Grimstad, Norway), Center for Education (Mallorca, Spain), Toplum Gönüllüleri Vakfı (Istanbul, Turkey), Koinoniki Anaptyksi Neon (Kalamata, Greece) and VereinMUNTERwegs (Menzingen, Switzerland). The partnership aims at developing and piloting an innovative and sustainable engagement mentoring model for migrant youth. The whole implementation of the project in the 6 countries followed a fixed frame on a 2-year period (2015-2017) included research, implementation, evaluation and monitoring, dissemination and advocacy.

Along the project term; 5 transnational meetings have been held, 12 master trainers, 72 mentors and 72 mentees have been trained, and then participated in the mentoring programme by meeting regularly for 8 months. Mentors were adult volunteers assembled by the partner organizations and mentees were 16 to 25 year-old-migrant youth. Reflection meetings between mentors and mentees have been held, short-term bilateral mobility activities were organised, where the mentors observed the work of their peers in other partner countries and 200 youth workers have been trained. All along the implementation of the project, intensive monitoring and evaluation strategy were also carried out to reflect constantly on the methodology.

As an output of the project; “Best Practices Research Report” covering research on already existing mentoring programmes with youth and/or migrants and “Guidebook” has been published to support possible NGOs and institutions going through all the steps towards conceiving and running their own mentoring program with migrant youth. In the advocacy phase of MentorPower Project; “Policy Recommendation Booklet” has been prepared to be presented to the regional and/or national authorities; policy makers, public or stakeholders to pinpoint the necessary steps to be taken in their country to increase the social and professional cohesion of migrant youth and how engagement mentoring can be used for such a purpose.

You can reach the project outputs at here.

You can contact with us

(*) The general term of “migrant” has been used as an umbrella term includes migrants, immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers due to the different terminology and conditions in partner countries.
