CID - Training course for combating hate speech and opposing narratives

Center for Intercultural Dialogue is organising an online training course for combating hate speech and opposing narratives in the framework of the project “Fight against hate speech and hate crime”, supported by the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The main goal of the project is to create a responsible society where people actively combat hate speech and hate crime of any form and promote values of human rights, tolerance, and acceptance among different groups.

The national training course will bring together 20 young people in order to develop their competencies in recognising hate speech, especially in manifestations of hate speech in the media. The main goal of the training is to develop media literacy and acquire skills for critical thinking, analysing and deconstructing hate speech, and developing counter and alternative narratives as mechanisms to combat hate speech.

The training will consist of 3 parts. Right now we are in the preparatory online phase, where the participants have the chance to meet in the virtual space and share a few words about themselves. The next phase is the 4-day training that will happen on the 2nd, 4th, 9th and 11th of December on ZOOM Platform. At this stage through various activities, simulations, discussions and exercises the participants will have the opportunity to explore the topic in more detail and start planning their local activities. Last but not least is the follow-up phase, which consists of a series of activities to be carried out by the participants themselves who will act as multipliers in their local community.

We expect the training to be a huge success. This will be a nice way to end this year which has brought us great challenges both in our private life and at work.
