YEU Representation in The Advisory Council on Youth

01/03/2014

In April 2013, YEU has been elected for the second mandate in Advisory Council (AC) on Youth of Council of Europe. The AC is made up of 30 representatives from youth NGOs and networks which provide opinions and input on all youth sector activities.

The Council of Europe is the continent’s leading human rights organization. It includes 47 member states, 28 of which are members of the European Union. All Council of Europe member states have signed up to the European Convention on Human Rights, a treaty designed to protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law. You can read more about it at the following link.

The Council of Europe is taking a leading role in advocating for youth rights in Europe and I am willing to give my contribution in this important process because the human and youth rights are priority for building a peaceful, tolerant and multicultural society and Advisory Council should continue being one of the bodies where young people have a word to say and contribute. As we say “future is in hands of youth” in order to secure better one, we need to empower and motivate young people to be, not only active citizens of their country but active citizens of Europe and even the whole world. Tolerant, open minded, eager to learn and explore the world.

For last 28 years, YEU is working on enhancing and supporting active youth participation, especially focusing on international youth exchanges, intercultural learning, inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities and human rights by using non-formal education as a main tool and methodology. In YEU, I was engaged in youth policy mainstreaming with a motivation to improve the sustainability of youth organizations and also to advocate for young people’s rights.

The need for the recognition and acceptance of the Convention on Youth Rights should be mainstreamed as well as our efforts to finalize the Legal framework on Youth Rights - very important process that will bring legal base for improving the issues such as the health and well-being, access to education and training, employment, voting rights, housing, poverty and mobility of all young people coming from the member states of CoE.

The incoming AC members participated in a Training Course on 29-31 January 2014 in Strasbourg before their first meeting on 24-26 March 2014 in Budapest when the new Chair and Bureau will be elected. Training was mainly dedicated to introduce new AC members with the work and procedure done at the AC and to prepare them for the upcoming 2 years mandate.

I am very proud I will be YEU representative for the mandate 2014-2015.
