Youth Blast this June in “RIO + 20”
The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) known as “Rio + 20 Conference” will very soon be taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From the 20th to the 22nd of June, politicians, participants from private sector and NGO leaders will discuss and plan actions in order to reach a more sustainable globe. The role of youth in this process has been acknowledged by creating the Major Group for Children and Youth. Therefore, for ensuring the empowerment of young people during the main conference, an official preparatory event for young people is organized as the “Conference of Youth for Rio+20 (aka YOUTH BLAST)” from the 7th to the 12th of June.
During the event, information and training for young leaders will be provided and space for sharing experiences and solutions related to sustainable development issues and forms of participation in decision making at the international level will be given. The first days will target on young Brazilians and will be implemented in Portuguese only, and the final 3 days will gather young leaders from all over the world to discuss strategies and action plans to be implemented during the main conference.
The “Rio + 20 Conference” is organized to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio de Janeiro, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg. Those events had huge impact on promoting and implementing sustainable development concept by governments, companies, NGO's and individuals.
