YEU International took part in building new relations between European and Chinese youth
2011 will be the EU China Year of Youth
YEU President Bartolomeo Bufi represented YEU in EU-China Leaders Summit
During the meeting a Joint Statement was adopted which is strongly welcoming the decision of EU and China leaders to celebrate the EU-China Year on Youth in 2011, emphasizing the the European Year of Volunteering and contributing to the celebrations of the UN International Year on Youth 2010/2011. In addition, the statement underlined the main goals towards the year.
It was agreed that the Year on Youth should aim to:
• enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the young people of EU and China;
• encourage young people to actively engage and support the development of EU-China relations;
• raise EU-China people to people contacts to a new level, and promote its sustainable development.
Furthermore, there might be additional partnership events such as joint initiatives between schools and youth organisations, EU China training course for youth leadership and youth ambassadors. It was agreed that YEU will be one of the partners while organizing some of the mentioned activities between Europe and China.
Together with the Summit Round-table with all the stakeholders involved was organised in the EUO Pavillion of the Shanghai Expo in order to celebrate the European Day. The round-table was held on the theme of “Renewing China-EU relations and establishing youth partnership relations: towards the Future, Roles and Responsibilities of EU-China Youth”.
The Summit brought together 60 young people from the European Union and Chinese Youth Organisations.
