"Open Agenda - The floor is yours!" training course CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
The main aim of the training course “Open Agenda: The floor is yours“ is to discover and implement an innovative approach in non-formal education and to reinforce the elements of self-directed learning, learner centred and participant’s needs based educational activities.
The main idea came from the experience of the trainers involved in activities in Youth for Exchange and Understanding which as an organisation is constantly trying to develop new approaches in their work especially through non-formal education which is one of the core values of this network.
The main idea of the training course is to offer a safe space where both participants and trainer/facilitators will be pushed in their stretching zone. On one side the participants will be responsible by their own for their learning needs to develop a programme/process in which they will be able to learn as much as possible considering the knowledge and experience in the group. On the other side the trainers that will have to follow a process which will be entirely driven by the needs of the participants and will have to be able to provide a structured model for observing, reflection and facilitation.
The training course will have its objectives, aim and learning outcomes just the only difference from “regular” training courses it will have a planned programme only for the first day, the last sessions in the other days and the last day. In the other parts the participants will have the space to develop their own programme, which will be based on the overall objectives, the needs and the experience of the group. The participants will be in a constant situation where the self-directed and self-responsible learning will be reinforced. The group will have to develop a programme, which will be suitable for their need, learning style, but also use the competencies inside the group.
The training course will gather 20 participants, who are already working as trainers, experienced with non-formal education and are practitioners on different levels from local to international. Beside participants from the pool of trainers and organizers from YEU International it will also include representatives and practitioners/trainers from different organisations. This will offer a space for capacity building among partner organisations and will offer a perspective and approach from geographically different realities.
Youth for Exchange and Understanding as an organisation is working actively on providing quality youth work and non-formal education processes. But in the last period we have noticed that the motivation and engagement of the youth is changing, because of the changing needs. Following them last year we did a questionnaire about the needs of young people and we see that they are very diverse and that they change quite quickly, as the reality and societies in Europe are changing fast because of various reasons. From there we came up with the idea for the Open Agenda training for trainers which will focus on building capacities to trainers for adjusting and leading a learning process according to the needs of the participants, but also improve their competences for self-directed learning and coordinating and development of a learning process.
The main objectives of the training course are:
- To offer safe space where participants will be encouraged to take ownership on their learning achievements
- To reflect on different styles of learning and learning needs in an international/intercultural environment
- To develop individual competences of young people for training, facilitation and leadership in a diverse group of learners
Competence in working with young people - solid professional experience in training and international and intercultural youth work matters
Educational competence - the ability to prepare, organise, run and evaluate the activity
Team competence - the ability to work in and lead an international team
Motivation to be part of the training
Commitment to engage throughout the whole process
