Green Leaders make a Jump-Start with a training course during the University on Youth and Development
The first training course of the Green Leaders long-term project “Sustainability – Getting Started!” was held in Mollina, Spain between the 14th – 23rd of September 2012. The 8-day training course gathered 22 youth workers, youth leaders and volunteers from the partner organizations of the Green Leaders project coming from Portugal, Belgium, Turkey, the Netherlands and Spain.
During the training, participants from partner organizations increased their capacity on youth work and gained knowledge on main principles and aspects of sustainable development. They discovered good practices on how to reduce the environmental impact on a personal, organizational and policy level. Besides the indoor sessions, the Green Leaders team had the chance to pick up grapes with farmers in a vineyard and to visit a wine and oil cooperative in Mollina. As an outcome of the training course, participants developed a handbook which involves background information and guidelines on how to reduce the environmental impact of youth organizations and youth events. Project ideas which will be implemented on a local level in the next phase of the project were developed and structured with an action plan.
The training course took place within the 13th University on Youth and Development (UYD), whose overall theme was “Youth Rights”. Because of that, participants took part in the joint programme activities of the UYD to discover and share more about youth rights. During the joint programme activities, participants had the possibility to interact with other youth organizations and their participants, to exchange experiences and to learn together. The joint programme used dance, music, theatre, sports to talk about youth rights and created a great synergy which made these common space enjoyable for all. During the week, the declaration on Youth Rights “Grant Young People the Rights that fit their Duties” was also prepared by the partners of the UYD including YEU.
The declaration is available as an attachment to this article or by visiting: http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/nscentre/Youth/Declaration_13_UYD_FINAL.pdf
