Title: Job Hunters

Organizers:
Youth for Exchange and Understanding (YEU) is an International Non-Governmental Youth Organization established in 1986 and member of the European Youth Forum in Brussels as an INGYO. YEU looks forward to increase tolerance and awareness between different countries, cultures and traditions, and to promote a greater level of comprehension through the development of various youth activities. The main aim of YEU is to promote peace, understanding and co-operation between the young people of the world, in a spirit of respect for human rights. YEU is a non-profit making, interdenominational youth organization independent of all political affiliation, run by young people for young people by means of a democratic structure. Visit our website for more details about YEU: http://www.yeu-international.org/

YEU Cyprus: YEU Cyprus stands for Youth for Exchange and Understanding Cyprus and it is a non-political, non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Cyprus. It was established in 1995 with the aim to foster closer co-operation and better understanding among the young people of the world through the exchange of information, experiences and ideas. YEU Cyprus is one of the biggest youth organizations in Cyprus numbering more than 1000 members. It is considered to be one of the most active organizations of the island realizing several activities both on international and local level.
YEU Cyprus is a full member of the Cyprus Youth Council and is represented in the CYC Board. It is also a member of the Advisory Body of the Cyprus Youth Board, the semi -governmental organization responsible for youth issues in Cyprus. YEU Cyprus is affiliated with the YEU International platform which is under the European Youth Forum umbrella. YEU Cyprus organises and participates as a partner in various international and local activities. On international level, YEU Cyprus organizes and delivers training courses or exchanges on different topics, focusing always on the youth’s development, awareness raising and capacity building. The methodology of the activities is based on non-formal education and experiential learning. YEU Cyprus also gives its members the opportunity to participate in international activities abroad such as in partner’s training courses, youth exchanges, European Voluntary Service (EVS), seminars, SALTO events and the YEU International Youth Convention. On local level, in attempt to bring youngsters together and make them aware of different topics, YEU Cyprus organizes Theatre of the Oppressed, Human Libraries, workshops and seminars on different topics (for example human trafficking, non-formal education, volunteering), street festivals, laughter festival, geocahing, field trips and other activities.

SUMMARY OF THE MAIN ACTIVITY

The youth exchange will take place between 21-29 of July in Cyprus and particular in 3 different locations: Pedoulas, Nicosia and Agros.
The countries included in this youth exchange are Cyprus, Italy, Belgium, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, Portugal and Greece gathering 45 young people from YEU member organizations. Call is open also for other YEU Member Organizations within certain travel costs limits! Feel free to apply! If you want to know your travel costs limits, contact YEU Administrative office.
The aim of this project is to inspire young people to re-enter the labor market after exploring and enhancing their skills and potential. This project will be the starting point that will help them to reconsider their abilities and capacities and inspire them to enter the labor market.

IYC15 will empower the participants to take a proactive role and, at the same time, will motivate and encourage unemployed or with fewer opportunities youth to start searching again for a job from another perspective after discovering themselves and their potential. All the activities that will be carried out during the training course will be based on non-formal education methods and experiential outdoor education.

Context:
When we think of the word “youth”, the first things we associate it with are energy, creativity, passion and enthusiasm. Yet, there is another side of this coin as well; inactivity, disappointment, resignation and indignation. And unfortunately, there is a big percentage of young people in Europe -and even the majority in some European countries- that represent the negative one.
Indeed, the economic crisis had seriously hit youth. Many times they have to follow a career path distinct from their field of studies as the needs are more market-oriented. At the same time there is a great concern about the number of NEETs youth (not in employment, education or training) which is increasing more and more. Not being part of the labor market for a long period, could produce bad consequences loss of self-confidence, self-esteem, motivation and creativity. Because of this, young people are not so interested in participating in the society, they feel ashamed of themselves, they do not socialize anymore with their friends, and they finally become socially excluded.
European Union is more than concerned about the youth unemployment problem and there are various initiatives and actions being taken to reinforce youth and battle unemployment. But this is just a start. We, as youth organizations, need to act on local level to ensure that more young unemployed people will be influenced by those EU actions, initiatives and policies. We have to give them again the stimulus and the chance to dream about their lives and design their future the way they want. And at the same time, we should equip them with all the necessary competences which will make them skillful hunters when searching for a job. In this context, the idea of our project “JOB HUNTERS” was born.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the youth exchange are the following:
• To identify the reasons -other than the economic crisis- of unemployment in different partner countries. For example low self-esteem, inactiveness during the unemployment period, etc.
• To exchange opinions on the meaning of the term “work” and its value in our everyday lives;
• To explore the connection/relation between labor market and field of study and the social implications derived by this relation;
• To identify the strengths and weaknesses of their personality on several sectors;
• To develop specific skills (spoken communication, making effective presentations, time management, teamwork, etc.) which will later foster their employability;
• To explore self-employability concept with a focus on social entrepreneurship;
• To empower youth to (re-)enter the labor market.

METHODOLOGY
Non-formal education methods will be used throughout the youth exchange as we strongly believe in its power to develop the competences of young people. In this process of learning, there are no teachers and students. The activities are organized according to the needs of the participants while the sharing of experiences in healthy environments of trust and mutual respect is encouraged. Some of the methods used will be group discussion, debates, role games, simulations, ice-breaking activities, team work, etc. Finally, flexibility and variety in the methods used is very important to ensure that all the members of the learning process will be fully included.

THE IDEA OF A FACILITATOR DURING THE YOUTH EXCHANGE
The facilitator's team is a group of people who are facilitating the daily program with their Village Group (6-7 participants), according to the programme but being flexible to the needs of the participants at the same time. Each village group is facilitated by one or two facilitators. Being ‘leaders’ and observers, facilitators motivate people to get involved in workshops and to stimulate their creativity. The Core team takes care of the program and methodology of the workshops but facilitators are more than welcome to contribute in developing program of the entire event. The facilitator should take care of the group building and group dynamics with the support of the Core Team. The facilitators also make efforts to create safe space for all participants to take part in activities especially for people who are less confident or have language problems. If necessary, they are first to recognize and help in solving inside conflicts in groups. It is important to mention is that facilitators are to facilitate the directions of work of the group not to force them to work.
PROFILE OF FACILITATORS
- Willing to learn and develop her/his skills
- Motivated to share experience with others
- Experienced in YEU or other organizations on local/international youth projects
- Have an ambition to continue being involved in youth work
- Creative and positive
- Ready for challenge & adventure

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FACILITATOR
Methodology: to be prepared with all materials (facilitators handbook and recommended literature) before the event

Programme: to carry over all programme of village groups together with one’s pair to help core team in implementing programme of the all event

Daily reports: to motivate one’s village group to write daily report to stimulate participants to take active role in activities to collect and present all relevant information about daily activities

Daily programme: Make sure that all participants are informed in advance about the following daily activities

Materials: To take care about given materials: (flip charts, pens, pencils, markers, paper, adhesive tapes, etc.)

Outcomes: to collect the results of one’s group work for the final report

Image feedback: to take care about visual documentation of your groups work (photos and videos of all activities)

Time keepers and cleaning team: to take care about duties of one’s village group duties for waking up, cleaning, etc. according to agreed daily division of the tasks.

Other to be good example for participants to take responsibilities and initiative to play as a team member and support core team as well other facilitators to be resource of positive energy

RESULTS
The project will lead to various results, among others knowledge, skills and attitudes gained by the participants which will help them to get employed. In addition to that, the youth exchange will develop a small online publication. The publication will present the results of the online questionnaire and will provide some suggestions/recommendations about what should be done to address these obstacles. The suggestions and recommendations will be coming from the participants themselves. The idea is that this online publication is disseminated through the local/national/European networks of the partners with an aim to influence youth related policies. Together with the online publication, a short video will be produced. The video will involve the participants sharing motivational words that aim to inspire young people to enter the labour market.
We believe that these results of the project will have a positive impact on the participating organizations, on the young people, on other youth organizations as well as youth work on European level.
Facilitators are requested to attend the training before the convention starts:
- 18th of July (afternoon) arrivals of the facilitators;
- 19th – 20th of July – training of facilitators on the program and methods lead by core team;
- 30th of July is the day of facilitators’ & participants’ departure;
