Youth for Exchange and Understanding (YEU) is an International Non-Governmental Youth Organization established in 1986 and member of the European Youth Forum in Brussels as an INGYO. YEU looks forward to increase tolerance and awareness between different countries, cultures and traditions, and to promote a greater level of comprehension through the development of various youth activities.
The main aim of YEU is to promote peace, understanding and co-operation between the young people of the world, in a spirit of respect for human rights. YEU is a non-profit making youth organization independent of all political affiliation, run by young people for young people by means of a democratic structure. Visit our website for more details about YEU: http://www.yeu-international.org/

YEU Cyprus: YEU Cyprus stands for Youth for Exchange and Understanding Cyprus and it is a non-political, non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Cyprus. It was established in 1995 with the aim to foster closer co-operation and better understanding among the young people of the world through the exchange of information, experiences and ideas. YEU Cyprus is one of the biggest youth organizations in Cyprus numbering more than 1000 members. It is considered to be one of the most active organizations of the island realizing several activities both on international and local level.
YEU Cyprus is a full member of the Cyprus Youth Council and is represented in the CYC Board. It is also a member of the Advisory Body of the Cyprus Youth Board, the semi -governmental organization responsible for youth issues in Cyprus. YEU Cyprus is affiliated with the YEU International platform which is under the European Youth Forum umbrella. YEU Cyprus organises and participates as a partner in various international and local activities. On international level, YEU Cyprus organizes and delivers training courses or exchanges on different topics, focusing always on the youth’s development, awareness raising and capacity building. The methodology of the activities is based on non-formal education and experiential learning. YEU Cyprus also gives its members the opportunity to participate in international activities abroad such as in partner’s training courses, youth exchanges, European Voluntary Service (EVS), seminars, SALTO events and the YEU International Youth Convention. On local level, in attempt to bring youngsters together and make them aware of different topics, YEU Cyprus organizes Theatre of the Oppressed, Human Libraries, workshops and seminars on different topics (for example human trafficking, non-formal education, volunteering), street festivals, laughter festival, geocahing, field trips and other activities.

SUMMARY OF THE MAIN ACTIVITY

The Convention will take place between 21-29 of July in Cyprus and particular in 3 different locations: Pedoulas, Nicosia and Agros.
The countries included in this youth exchange are Cyprus, Italy, Belgium, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, Portugal and Greece gathering 45 young people from YEU member organizations. Call is open also for other YEU Member Organizations within certain travel costs limits! Feel free to apply! If you want to know your travel costs limits, contact YEU Administrative office.
The aim of this project is to inspire young people to re-enter the labor market after exploring and enhancing their skills and potential. This project will be the starting point that will help them to reconsider their abilities and capacities and inspire them to enter the labor market.
IYC15 will empower the participants to take a proactive role and, at the same time, will motivate and encourage unemployed or with fewer opportunities youth to start searching again for a job from another perspective after discovering themselves and their potential. All the activities that will be carried out during Convention will be based on non-formal education methods and experiential outdoor education.

Context:
When we think of the word “youth”, the first things we associate it with are energy, creativity, passion and enthusiasm. Yet, there is another side of this coin as well; inactivity, disappointment, resignation and indignation. And unfortunately, there is a big percentage of young people in Europe -and even the majority in some European countries- that represent the negative one.
Indeed, the economic crisis had seriously hit youth. Many times they have to follow a career path distinct from their field of studies as the needs are more market-oriented. At the same time there is a great concern about the number of NEETs youth (not in employment, education or training) which is increasing more and more. Not being part of the labor market for a long period, could produce bad consequences loss of self-confidence, self-esteem, motivation and creativity. Because of this, young people are not so interested in participating in the society, they feel ashamed of themselves, they do not socialize anymore with their friends, and they finally become socially excluded.
European Union is more than concerned about the youth unemployment problem and there are various initiatives and actions being taken to reinforce youth and battle unemployment. But this is just a start. We, as youth organizations, need to act on local level to ensure that more young unemployed people will be influenced by those EU actions, initiatives and policies. We have to give them again the stimulus and the chance to dream about their lives and design their future the way they want. And at the same time, we should equip them with all the necessary competences which will make them skilful hunters when searching for a job. In this context, the idea of our project “JOB HUNTERS” was born.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the youth exchange are the following:
• To identify the reasons -other than the economic crisis- of unemployment in different partner countries. For example low self-esteem, inactiveness during the unemployment period, etc.
• To exchange opinions on the meaning of the term “work” and its value in our everyday lives;
• To explore the connection/relation between labor market and field of study and the social implications derived by this relation;
• To identify the strengths and weaknesses of their personality on several sectors;
• To develop specific skills (spoken communication, making effective presentations, time management, teamwork, etc.) which will later foster their employability;
• To explore self-employability concept with a focus on social entrepreneurship;
• To empower youth to (re-)enter the labor market.
METHODOLOGY
Non-formal education methods will be used throughout the youth exchange as we strongly believe in its power to develop the competences of young people. In this process of learning, there are no teachers and students. The activities are organized according to the needs of the participants while the sharing of experiences in healthy environments of trust and mutual respect is encouraged.

It will include standard elements which derive from the principles of non-formal education such as:
• get to know, ice breaking and team building activities
• writing expectations, youthpass guidance, daily reflection and evaluation activities
• Apart from those, the youth exchange will involve the following content related elements:
• discussion about the meaning of “work” from the human rights perspective and its value in our everyday lives
• discussion about the reasons of unemployment in different partner countries.
• Exploring the link between labor market and field of study and the social implications derived by this relation;
• Self-awareness and self-empowering activities in which participants will identify their strengths and weaknesses
• Activities which help participant to develop specific skills which will later foster their employability;
• Information about self-employability concept with a focus on social entrepreneurship;
