Becoming more sustainable step by step
From 14th till 20th September training course “Exchangology! Sustainable Youth Exchanges – Reducing the Environmental Impact of International Youth Exchanges” was held in Mollina, Spain! Participants all around Europe gathered together to discuss the topic of sustainability and learn how to become more “green” in personal and professional life.
As the training was held in the framework of University on Youth and Development YEU training was one of the projects held in Mollina at the same time. All together the 11th UYD gathered together 11 simultaneously running projects-meetings and more than 200 people from all around the world. Every event was connected to sustainability, every participant interested in becoming more responsible for the environment.
The aims of the YEU training course was to introduce the topics of carbon footprint, offsetting and reducing to the participants and learn how to organize sustainable youth activities so that in the future we will have only carbon zero youth projects. The topic was new and unclear for most of the participants. Everyone had an idea what they might be or had heard something about it, but no one actually had an experience of assessing their carbon footprint or acting green.
Though the training was successful it was only the beginning of a longer journey. We have a long way to change peoples’ way of thinking about the environment and get them realize why one should be taking care of their carbon footprint. Therefore we are already developing new ideas how to follow-up.
