A cheerful volunteer in YEU exchange in Bosnia Herzegovina
My experience from the YEU exchange “Cheers for Volunteers” in Bosnia and Herzegovina was something I will always remember. The youth exchange brought together young people from Holland, Poland, FYROM/Macedonia, Serbia, Portugal between the 25 of May and 2nd of June 2012 to work and discuss on the topic of volunteering and its impact on the well-being of young people. During this exchange, I learned a lot of things about volunteering and making myself useful, but I also learned things about other cultures by meeting other people from a variety of backgrounds with whom I became really good friends.
The working process was something I really liked; the different games and NFE methods made the workshops interesting and really informative, of course with the help of our facilitators who were very open to us and from whom we learned a lot. We also learned about different volunteering organizations and had a chance to also present our organization in a creative way and that made us realize how important youth organizations are to our communities. Moreover, we explored Banja Luka, our venue city, with different tasks that were given to us in a city challenge, which brought us closer together and encouraged teamwork.
Saying goodbye was a difficult time for me because I got used to the people and the fun, but this exchange inspired me to put everything I leaned into practice in my city and everywhere I go as a volunteer and this way I can surely contribute into creating a better world.
