Time To Be Welcome - Call for Volunteers
The project “Time to be welcome” is a collaborative partnership between WOSM, YEU International, EFIL, Scouting Ireland, Icelandic Scouts, Scouts of FYROM, Singa, British Red Cross, Scouts Hellas (SHP) and EEUdF.
The project aims to involve volunteers from several different countries and offer them the chance to volunteer for various durations of time (2 months, 6 months or 12 months). As set by partners, this project will run until November 2018.
The project aims at encouraging young volunteers and youth organisations in Europe to support the welcoming of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees and their integration process through the use of non-formal education and youth work, while encouraging Public opinion in Europe to be more respectful and more open towards migrants.
Volunteers will be empowered to take action in contributing to welcome refugees and newly arrived migrants in to refugees camps and other hosting structures and local communities. They will also facilitate the interaction between refugees and the local communities members in order to set a strong foundation for their future cooperation and mutual understanding.
More info on the hosting organizations:
1) Greece - SHP
Volunteers will work at Soma Hellinon Proskopon (Scouts of Greece - SHP). The Scouts of Greece is the largest and oldest educational youth organisation in the country and operates under the supervision of the Greek Ministry of Education. For the last year, SHP has been actively involved in refugee relief activities. Greece, besides being confronted with the worst economic crisis of modern times, is also facing a severe refugee crisis. SHP is aware of the situation and firmly believes that Scouts need to take a central role in helping both the refugee population and the local communities.
2) France - EEUdf
Volunteers will work at Eclaireuses Eclaireurs Unionistes de France (EEUdF). EEUdF is one of the official national associations of scouting in France. Organizing weekly activities, winter and summer camps for 4500 young people (yearly), aged from 8 to 19, EEUdF is a member of WOSM and is already working in partnership with many organisations specialised on human rights and social help for migrants and refugees, like CIMADE and Singa. Singa is an association dedicated to empower citizens to accompany refugee inclusion and to change the narrative about asylum in the media and society.
Where and What:
The volunteering activities will take place in Athens, Greece. We are keen for volunteers to come forward with their own project ideas and, where possible, we will do what we can to support you to achieve these. Volunteers will be involved in refugee support activities on the ground in different sites (UAM shelters, family hubs, refugee camps, etc.). Activities will be based on non-formal education and will take many forms, i.e. organization of awareness-raising events, organisation of recreational activities for refugees and migrants, organisation of language courses.
The project is funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus + program.
