Youth for Exchange and Understanding, is an international youth organization. It was founded in Strasburg, in 1986, by a group of 120 people, from 11 different countries. Today it’s a member of the European Youth Forum and LifeLong Learning Platform and carries the title of an International Non-Governmental Organization, recognized by both the Council of Europe and the European Union. Almost 37 years after its foundation, YEU, today, has 36 Member Organisations across 27 countries in Europe and Africa. YEU works for the benefit of all young people in Europe. Youth for Exchange and Understanding (YEU) is seeking for a EVENTS AND MEMBERSHIP OFFICER to join our team and be responsible for organising and managing events, including statutory ones, and maintaining contact with YEU Member Organisations and partners starting from November 15th 2018.
The person selected will work closely and report to YEU Secretary General. The contract for this position is based in Belgium, and it requires traveling and attendance of meetings and other project activities around Europe.
TASKS OF EVENTS AND MEMBERSHIP OFFICER:
Organise events, meetings, short-term learning mobilities from planning to implementation and reporting including communication with participants and partners
Work on pre-event planning, manage registration and attendance, set and managed events’ budgets, research venues
Oversee the on-day logistics of all events, run post-event follow-up with participants, and evaluate events
Support the team in planning, implementation and reporting phases
Work on the implementation of YEU Membership strategy, membership and partnership recruitment
Work on the implementation of People Empowerment and Organisational development Strategy and identifying capacity building/strengthening needs of Member Organisations and their members
Identify and monitor membership opportunities, in coordination with YEU Secretary General and/or Governing Board members;
Create and implement the process of Annual Membership Survey,
Manage contacts on YEU Intranet and monitor member engagement and interests;
Support the governance of the organisation including preparation of the Annual YEU General Assembly and other statutory events.
Support the work of the membership committee of YEU together with the Secretary general and governing board
PROFILE, COMPETENCES AND REQUIREMENTS:
At least 3 years of experience in international youth work (professional and/or volunteer)
Excellent organisational skills (please mention events you have organised with appropriate details)
Excellent understanding of membership based organisations environment, youth work and non-formal education
Good understanding of project management
Good communication skills, empathy, tolerance and team spirit;
Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines set by external stakeholders and internal procedures;
Excellent knowledge (written and oral) of English. Knowledge of French is desirable but not a condition.
Able to motivate colleagues and volunteers and coordinate international teams;
Has a sensitivity to cultural differences with ability to work in an international and intercultural environment;
Basic IT skills: Microsoft Office Suite, online collaborative tools (Gdrive, Basecamp)
Willingness to travel regularly and be flexible with working hours;
Self motivated and able to take initiatives; Have an eye for detail and ability to prioritise tasks
Availability to start the position in November 2018;
