Call for interns in YEU office in Brussels
YEU believes that internships are important part of career preparation, tool to gain experience in expertise that person likes to do, to determine the skill level the person has and which aspects should be developed more. With this, we want to give guidelines which will help to maintain high quality of internships in YEU, starting from selection, recruitment, supervision and evaluation.
DEFINITION of internship:
o Internships provide real work experience to those looking to explore or gain the relevant knowledge and skills required to enter into a particular career field. Interns generally have a supervisor who assigns specific tasks and evaluates the intern's overall work. Internships can be either short term or long term.
o In YEU internships are mostly done in cooperation with Universities, in that case:
● Internships are considered as part of higher education that bring credit points where interns have a student status, access to services like student loans, student housing, health insurance, scholarships provided by University.
o When taking place outside of formal education (also after graduation) they do not bring credit points for the diploma and they are financed within a project. In case when internship is financed as part of the project (e.g. mobility of youth workers), costs of intern are covered in line with funding programme rules.
o YEU is not accepting interns who are not funded by third party (youth programme projects/foundation/university).
Interns have the opportunity to:
o Gain skills in field of project management, general administration, organizational management, communication, intercultural learning, development of position and policy papers and support realization of YEU projects.
o Develop their own project ideas with guidance and support of supervisors in order to develop their project proposals development skills.
o Experience team work in international and intercultural environment, learn to work under pressure and develop team work competences as well as intercultural dialogue and understanding.
