The role of man in gender equal Europe
Not so long ago, YEU took a part in so called ''Project M'' with following training for trainers: '' The role of men in gender equal Europe ‘‘, organized by Centre E8, in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia. Even though the weather wasn’t serving our predictions to organize local activities, the atmosphere was clearly heated up. As gender equality is the new coming topic, that is, let’s say still undiscovered enough, we together with 6 other countries (Austria, Serbia, Portugal, Albania, FYROM/Macedonia and Kosovo*) were able to open up and gain the necessary knowledge in order to spread it amongst our countries and/or partner organizations.
As ‘’ Program M ‘’, previously mentioned, affects youth, we were pleased to participate at training, and gain further knowledge of how the program is going to be realized. It is on the local level of partner country, with target group of high-schoolers (age may vary among countries, 14-19), and peer facilitators, ready to start workshops with basic knowledge, such as language difference between *Gender & *Sex, further division of basic topics and language sensitivity.
The training itself was very diverse, between trainers and trainer participants, knowledge level, experience and willingness to contribute to further project development. There was lot’s to learn, and clearly lot’s to share.
YEU strongly believes gender equality is not only a ‘’ women’s concern ‘’ but the responsibility of all individuals, and the society as whole, which requires the active contribution from both men and women; More importantly, the roles that men and women play in society are not biologically determined, but self-determined. They are human right, and free will of gender expression.
