Small steps that will lead to bigger result
Young refugees, social minorities, immigrants and vulnerable groups have enormous potential assets, but their reality is still marked by instability and exclusion. That vulnerability is closely related to socioeconomic segmentation among young people that is due to both institutional and personal logic that offers few opportunities for new members of the society.
The Red cross Organization in Spain is conducting a Social Integration Program in order to provide newcomers from Morocco and Latin America language learning opportunities, sufficient attention is taken to give the migrants local customs, history and legislation of the state. It is a series of sessions totaling 40 hours including the topics that can be relevant for migrants for the integration to the hosting community.
This project is being developed in different towns and villages. The last one took place in Alcoy and It was attended a total of 26 people, mostly from Morocco and Latin America, and four local volunteers have helped teachers.
The organizers of this program indicate the importance of this service for immigrants and for the most vulnerable classes of citizenship. They have also noted and appreciated the work of the Agència Amics which also has other programs for immigrants, such as literacy classes and school support, reception services and legal assistance and employment.
