Position of Youth for Exchange and Understanding on the situation in Ukraine
Promoting peace, understanding and co-operation among the young people of the world, in a spirit of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, the International Network Youth for Exchange and Understanding strongly condemns the use of force and violence against peaceful protesters in Ukraine. Recalling the main principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we urge the government of Ukraine to respect the rights of civil society and the principles of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, which are fundamental democratic values.
We call on the Government of Ukraine to act in accordance with its international obligations and secure human rights of all the people in the country. Additionally, we call on the External Action Service of the EU and Catherine Ashton to proceed in the use of all available instruments in order to protect the human rights of young Ukrainians. Furthermore, we encourage the youth in Ukraine to continue expressing their active civil society position.
The General Assembly, being the highest governmental body of Youth for Exchange and Understanding, expresses its official position of support to the young people of Ukraine, in their willingness to maintain stronger ties with the European Union.
