J.A.M.M.IN’! Joint Artistic Methodologies for Migrants’ inclusion and integration
The project “J.A.M.M.IN’! Joint Artistic Methodologies for Migrants’ inclusion and integration” wants to develop and promote innovative methodologies and practices that bring together the value and benefits of arts with the principles of non-formal education.
On Saturday 5th October 2019, Youth for Exchange and Understanding International held their first art workshop in the scope of the JAMMIN project. A first freestyle painting activity was organised so that local young people from refugee or migrant background could sail away from their current issues and spend some time having fun with paint, giggles and shenanigans. The project is being implemented by four different organisations in four different countries: YEU International (Belgium), La Fenice (Italy), Daquiedacola (Spain) and Centre for Intercultural Dialogue (North Macedonia). Till the end of 2019, art workshops using non-formal education were being organised around Europe with the sole purpose of creating inclusion and integrating young people with difficult backgrounds like refugees. Throughout the project, different tools and good practices from the different partners used in their activities will be gathered in order to maximise our impact and create meaningful activities for young people. This first activity took place in the Alléedukaai in Molenbeek (Brussels), a temporary project from Toestand, a Belgian organisation that takes abandoned facilities and turns them into social-cultural centres where activists, organisations or individuals can organise workshops and activities for people coming from disadvantaged areas.
With the passing of the Christmas holidays, a partners meeting was held in Tortona (Italy) between the 23rdand 25th January, where we discussed, developed and decided about the outcomes of the project, including finalising the website where all our content will be posted throughout the following months.

As you all well know, with the current pandemic of COVID-19 (more commonly known as the Corona Virus) that the whole of the world has been facing these last few months, we had to postpone all of our activities that were bound to happen throughout the months of March, April and May. On behalf of YEU and the JAMMIN team, our hearts are will all those affected and with the people that lost their lives to this terrible virus.
We will keep posting links, articles and research on the JAMMIN website, so please make sure to check it out if the topic of arts, migration and non-formal education all mixed together into a wonderful and fascinating initiative interests you!
Stay tuned in order to be up to date with the developments of the project and how we will proceed after these difficult times with our local activities, training course and multiplier events!
