I had an opportunity to participate in study session “Youth against gender discrimination and homophobia” which took place from 4th till 11th of October in European Youth Centre in Strasbourg, France. Event was organized by EEE-YFU (European Educational Exchanges – Youth For Understanding) and KPH (Campaign Against Homophobia).
The aim of study session, made possible due to the financial support of the European Youth Foundation, was to learn about gender discrimination and homophobia and to learn how to act against it. Thanks to geopolitical diversity of the participants (25 participants from 15 countries), I could find out about different forms of gender discrimination and homophobia in different countries and exchange life experience related with this topic.
Program of the study session was built in a way to make a learning process interesting and effective. It contained different aspects of discrimination (in work, in media, etc.) which was really useful. There was a lot of space for the participants to share their own experiences and thoughts which enrich many lively discussions that took place during that time.
Some learning methods were very surprising for me and unconventional even for non-formal education standards, however with the doze of terminology and expert talk, I can say it was very effective. The final part of the programme were individual and structural action plans – plans how to put into practice what we’ve learnt.
I’m very happy I could participate in this study session. Thanks to that I got lots of useful information and skills. Besides that I have met really great people and had wonderful time. As all events which I participate, this time I also did what I do all the time – promoted EVS. I’m sure that this event will benefit in the future for all of people, who want to live in diverse and equal world.
